We absolutely love this newborn session of a sweet, little baby girl whose father is a firefighter and are especially in love with the image of her in the fireman’s hat. Amy worked hard for that shot her dad requested, and we loved the way it turned out!
Our photographers talk to the families ahead of time about anything special they have the desire to use during a session. Usually it is something simple to incorporate like a quilt from grandma or an outfit that dad wore, but we can utilize more complicated props like this helmet, too — with proper care and planning!
It can take a lot of extra time to get a tiny baby settled and comfortable in a set up like that, but little, sweet Adaleigh was surrounded by tons of padding. Unconventional props like this (especially while photographed in the air) require a spotter to be present and extra safety measures to be planned ahead of time. This baby was extremely safe the entire time!
Even for sibling shots, we assign a spotter to be nearby or have a parent beside them. We would much rather photoshop someone out of a shot than risk injury! This big brother was very excited about his little sister and listened carefully to instructions. If it becomes challenging for the siblings cooperate, we usually skip the shot or try a more simple one where they are both lying on their backs.
In order to get everything from those tiny toes details to the canvas worthy creative portraits, parents should expect a newborn session to be approximately 2-3 hours. We allow plenty of time for feeding, soothing and loving on the baby to get those priceless shots you want. We’ve learned that the baby always wins, whatever they need they get and we certainly don’t mind accommodating when the outcome is so magical. Our photographers design these sessions so that our newborns are safe and comfortable the entire time and take extra care that results in these peaceful, beautiful shots.
